So, with that in mind, we asked our team to name their 10 favourite walls that they think every child should try. To help guide you as to which walls are ideal for your child’s age, we’ve split the article into three parts. Let’s dive in!

Easy Challenges (Perfect for Toddlers and Younger Children)

Amazing

The Amazing wall is a fantastic starting point for little climbers. Its large, easy-to-grip holds make it ideal for toddlers and young children who are just beginning their climbing journey. This wall provides a great confidence boost as they conquer their first climbing experience. As they build up their confidence, they can increase the difficulty by attempting this wall  with their eyes closed!

Tot Climbing

Hexed

Hexed offers a fun and visually appealing challenge for younger kids, with its honeycomb-like appearance. Its hexagonal shapes and bright colours engages their imagination while providing a manageable climb. The coloured holds determine the degree of difficulty. The varied holds and slight angles help develop their climbing skills in a playful environment.

Big Cheese

The Big Cheese is designed with young children in mind. Its oversized holes resemble a giant piece of Swiss cheese, making it a hit among kids. This wall encourages exploration and creativity as they navigate through the various holes and holds, perfect for building confidence in young climbers.

Medium Challenges (Great for 4-8 Year Olds)

Skyscraper

For kids ready to take on a bit more complexity, Skyscraper offers an exciting challenge. This wall mimics the experience of scaling a tall building with its multiple levels and increasing difficulty. It’s a perfect way to introduce children to more structured climbing techniques and use of the undercling (upside down handles)

Velocity

Our newest wall here at Clip ‘n Climb Ilkley, and a popular one at that! Velocity brings speed into the mix, challenging kids to climb quickly and efficiently. This wall is great for developing both agility and problem-solving skills as children race against the clock to reach the top. It’s a thrilling and engaging way to keep them active.

Velocity Timer

Twister

Twister adds a twist to the climbing experience with its lego block multi-coloured structure. This wall requires climbers to think on their feet and adapt to changing conditions, making it an excellent medium-level challenge for 4-8 year olds looking to push their limits. For those who climb to the top, you can even peak over. Twister has 2 sides, one where the hand holds are upside down (undercling), making it even more challenging.

climbing safety

Tree Trunk

What kid doesn’t love climbing trees? Only trouble is, one slip could result in a crash landing on the floor ! The Tree Trunk wall provides a natural feel with its bark-like texture and irregular holds, but in the safe environment of Clip ‘n Climb. It’s designed to simulate climbing a real tree, offering a unique and enjoyable experience for children who have been climbing a while and want to challenge themselves. This wall helps improve balance and coordination in a fun, nature-inspired setting.

Challenging Walls (Perfect for Older Kids and Teenagers)

Dry Ice

This climb simulates climbing an ice wall, but with the use of hand-held wooden picks instead of ice axes.  Kids of all ages love climbing with the picks, and although bigger ones can do it better, the little ones always want a go too.  It introduces the idea that sometimes you need to climb sideways in order to progress upwards.  Great for building core muscles.

Speed Climb

Speed Climb is all about precision and speed. This wall features a timer, allowing climbers to track their progress and compete against friends or their own personal best. It’s perfect for those who thrive on competition and enjoy pushing their limits, making it a popular choice for teens. We also have a leaderboard, so there’s always something to aim at!

Speed Challenge

Triffid

Triffid is the ultimate test of strength, agility, and perseverance. With its intricate design and challenging routes, this wall offers a formidable challenge for experienced climbers. It’s a fantastic way for teenagers to hone their skills and tackle more demanding climbs. It is usual not to be able to do this wall on the first attempt, so it is not surprising that this one is labelled our most challenging wall.
